No Oil to Donate? No Problem!

Over the last year and a half, I’ve received quite a few questions from people who are interested in supporting the Oil Recycling Program but do not have any oil to donate. The good news is that there are many ways to help that do not require managing a fleet or owning an automotive repair business. Here are a few ways to get involved without getting your hands dirty!

Shop at Participating Auto Shops

Next time you are in need of an oil change, consider visiting an auto shop that participates in our Oil Recycling Program. Be sure to thank them for their support of Oregon HEAT and let them know you appreciate their commitment to the community and our environment! Check out the list of participating shops on our website to find a shop near you.

Do you already have a favorite auto shop, but they aren’t on the list? Next time you are in for some vehicle maintenance, let them know about our program. Customer feedback is a powerful force, and hearing from you may be just what’s needed to convince them to join the program.

Use Our Partner Recycling Centers

If you happen to change your own oil and are looking for a place to drop it off to recycle, you can donate it at an Oregon HEAT “Do-It-Yourself” drop-off location. In the Metro are you can take it to either the Far West Fibers recycling centers in either Lake Oswego at 341 Foothills Rd, or at their NW Portland location at 1520 NW Quimby St. We also have a location in Southern Oregon at the Valley View Transfer Station in Ashland at 3000 Valley View Rd. We hope to be adding more locations soon!

Spread the Word!

One of the most valuable tools for the program is the word-of-mouth of our supporters. Please do tell all of your friends about what we are accomplishing with our Oil Recycling Program, and “like” us on Facebook at facebook.com/oregonheat. I want the Oil Recycling Program to be the first thought on the minds of all the shops and agencies that generate used oil, and we can get there with your help. Remember we also take donations of home heating oil, so if you know of anyone that needs to have their tank emptied, please send them our way.

These are a few ways you can get involved on behalf of the Oregon HEAT Oil Recycling Program. If you have any ideas about how to grow program, I would love to hear from you. Feel free to give me a call at 503.612.3766 or email at roger_anderson@oregonheat.org.
